August 17, 2014, Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

News and Notes:  I wish to announce that after 27 years of service as Custodian and Facilities/Property Manager at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Arthur Wood has decided to retire from his role.  Arthur leaves as an OLA employee of over two and a half decades, grateful for the opportunity to serve the Church, and for the many friends he has made over the years.  Join me in thanking Arthur for his contributions to OLA, especially the behind-the-scenes work around our buildings and grounds that few people notice and most of us take for granted.  Good health and best wishes to Arthur, who remains a faithful OLA parishioner and member of the local Council of the Knights of Columbus.  I am happy to appoint Dan Whelan, another fine OLA parishioner and fellow Knight, as our part-time Collaborative Custodian as of August 15.  Dan brings a great deal of professional experience in Quality Control and a handyman’s skills to his new job.  Dan will be working with our Facilities Manager, JJ Kenney, to keep our buildings clean, safe and in good working order.  JJ has been working with masonry contractors this summer to repair the badly damaged wall, ramp and stairs at the entrance of the St. Francis Center, and the front stairs of OLA Church.  Thanks to the excellent work of the Collaborative Facilities Committee, we have begun to prioritize maintenance/capital improvement projects in both parishes and our parochial school.  With everybody’s help, especially in prayer and financial donations, we will be good stewards of our buildings and property for many years to come.  Welcome aboard, Dan!  Thanks to Pam Halpern and other parishioners from St. Maria Goretti for hosting a collation for OLA parishioners in the OLA Church Hall following the 9AM Mass on August 15, the feast of Mary’s Assumption, OLA’s patronal feast…another wonderful Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative moment.  If you have not registered your child for Religious Education classes which begin in both parishes the first weekend of October, please do so as soon as possible.  Blessings to all of you in the remaining days of summer!
